Discussion 9 post 2

Benefits of Social Media
  • There are many benefits to using social media in the classroom. Social media is a great way to update students with new information such as homework, handouts, and class expectations. It is a great way to engage students in the 21st century because it is something they are already doing so they will feel comfortable using these tools. Blogging is a great way to collaborate with all members of the classroom and also builds a class community. Social media is also a good way to get outside experts to interact with students. It is also a good way to keep a digital portfolio of students writings and an easy way to see the progress students are making.
Issues With Social Media
  • The problems with using social media would be getting the appropriate permission from parents and the school district to allow access to different sites on the Internet. It would also be very important to train students on what is appropriate behavior and content on the web. This would include teaching students how to be safe on the web such as not giving out to much personal information and location of students.

Social Media to Communicate with Parents and Students

  • Blogs would be a great tool to let students and parents know about what is happening in your classroom. It is a quick and easy way to keep everyone up to date on different activities.
